Let’s get out of this country I’ll admit I am bored with me I drowned my sorrows and slept around When not in body at least in mind We’ll find a cathedral city You can convince me I am pretty We’ll pick berries and recline Let’s hit the road dear friend of mine Wave goodbye to our thankless jobs We’ll drive for miles maybe never turn off We’ll find a cathedral city you can be handsome I’ll be pretty What does this city have to offer me? Everyone else thinks it’s the bee’s knees What does this city have to offer me? I just can’t see I just can’t see Let’s get out of this country I have been so unhappy Smell the Jasmine my head was turned I feel like getting confessional We’ll find a cathedral city you can convince me I am pretty What does this city have to offer me? Everyone else thinks it’s the bee’s knees What does this city have to offer me? I just can’t see I just can’t see

You're young with the time to afford yourself a few fashion mistakes You were way out of line when you told that boy of your mission Make or break a few hearts He's the one who keeps busy and he runs with all the bands Little does he know they think of him a lesser man They see a lesser man But if you see him Tell him I'll meet him On the edge of town The edge of town When the lights go down I got my hair cut today it would have really amused you We're young and we can be cruel because we choose to Lemon juice and paper cuts go like me and you You had a bash at being my friend It didn't suit you But if you see him Tell him I'll meet him On the edge of town The edge of town When the lights go down

Don't disturb my bed is what I should have said When you kissed me my head started to sway I took your picture You bought me some literature Honey you make my day I don't want to take advantage or do you any damage I'm not sure I can manage to stay away We have been tender Don't return to send her The love that was coming your way I will defend you my friend I won't quietly walk away. I don't want to take advantage or do you any damage I'm not sure I can manage to stay away Don't be downhearted by this thing we started I guess that's what I'm trying to say I will defend you my friend I won't quietly walk away

Modern Girl 04:33
He wakes and says hello, turns on the breakfast show She fixes coffee while he takes a shower Hey that was great, he said, I wish we could stay in bed But I got to be at work in less than an hour She manages a smile as he walks out the door She's a modern girl who's been though this movie before She don't build her world 'round no single man But she's gettin' by, doin' what she can She is free to be, what she wants to be 'N all what she wants to be, is a modern girl Na na na na na, na na na na na, na na na na na, she's a modern girl It looks like rain again, she takes a train again She's on her way again through London town Where she keeps a tangerine, flicks through a magazine Until it's time to leave her dreams on the underground She walks to the office like everyone else An independent lady, takin' care of herself She don't build her world 'round no single man But she's gettin' by, doin' what she can She is free to be, what she wants to be 'N all what she wants to be, is a modern girl Na na na na na, na na na na na, na na na na na, she's a modern girl She's been dreaming 'bout it all day long As soon as she gets home, it's him on the telephone He asks her to dinner, she says I'm not free Tonight I'm going to stay at home and watch my TV I don't build my world 'round no single man But I'm gettin' by, doin' what I can I am free to be, what I want to be 'N all what I want to be, is a modern girl Na na na na na, na na na na na, na na na na na, she's a modern girl Na na na na na, na na na na na, na na na na na, she's a modern girl (Repeats out)

about

Second single taken from "Let's get out of this country", the record that confirms CAMERA OBSCURA as one of the most important bands of the moment. The sweetness in Tracyanne Campbell appeals to all kinds of crowds, and the Glasgow band have achieved on this third album a timeless sound of their own, which sounds classic and makes you dream with moments you haven't lived. What else can you ask from a good pop song?

"Let's get out of this country" is the title track on the third album, and is also the main song on this single. A sunny, classic pop song which, as the rest of the album, was recorded in Sweden under the production of Jari Haapalainen (producer of such gems as THE CONCRETES or Ed Harcourt). Along with this song, the CD-single features two new tracks: "Lemon juice and paper cuts", evocative mid-tempo, lead by piano and organ, and "Return to send her", with a country-style guitar that is the perfect counterpoint to Tracyanne's vocal melody.

On the vinyl edition, the B-side is the version the band's done of Sheena Easton's "Modern girl", originally to be included on the CD compilation that comes along with the summer issue of Q Magazine (where many current artists cover songs from the 80s to celebrate the mag's 20th anniversary).
