Funny how we still remember
Words to the song they played
Ghosts of a teenage summer
Come to the Palisades
And like a fade to black
It all remains intact
You and your rollercoasters
Me and my souvenirs
Death defying kisses in the funhouse
We got drunk on love and beer
A polaroid of you from 1982
(Ooh wee ooh)
The memory makes me lonely
(Ooh wee ooh)
It’s makin’ me wanna cry
(Ooh wee ooh)
Why’d we every have to say goodbye
Come to the Palisades
We'd sit and watch the moon rise on the water
A pirate’s son and Neptune’s daughter
Said we’d always stay
Said we’d never change
Palisades swings all day or after dark
There’s still a trace of you in my heart
And like a fade to black
It all remains intact
We can never go back
(Ooh wee ooh)
The memory makes me lonely
(Ooh wee ooh)
It’s makin’ me wanna cry
(Ooh wee ooh)
Why’d we every have to say goodbye
Come to the Palisades

Like so many others, this came like a bolt out of the blue and, even though it's well before payday, I had to have this astonishing album on vinyl to prove it exists. The feel of the tunes makes me feel like the Impressions do, Curtis Mayfield, the big spaces and instinctive horns and stuff drifting in and out. Great grooves and I can see lots of ghosts nodding along to this with big smiles on their faces. At last! Anthony Cottrell
