Old man every now and then
I want to know why you left
Why it was so easy to forget
Old man from the look of it
You’re the lucky one
You learned to run
And everytime we thought that it was over and done
Just like the sun you’d come back again
Old man everybody said
I was the apple of your roving eye
Why’d you always have to make her cry
Old man she gave the world to you
You turned her heart black and blue
She even turned her pretty hair
From brunette to blonde
No magic wand could ever make you stay
Why was there always something better out there
Cheap perfume and women named Nancy
Or whatever tickled your fancy
Old man every now and then
I want to know why you left
Why it was so easy to let go
Old man tears and cigarettes and all your pony bets
They’re all off now
And everytime we thought that it was over and done
Just like the sun you’d come back again

Like so many others, this came like a bolt out of the blue and, even though it's well before payday, I had to have this astonishing album on vinyl to prove it exists. The feel of the tunes makes me feel like the Impressions do, Curtis Mayfield, the big spaces and instinctive horns and stuff drifting in and out. Great grooves and I can see lots of ghosts nodding along to this with big smiles on their faces. At last! Anthony Cottrell
