I never want you to feel again The way you did in your sad stories I want to take every bad thing Take it and consign it to history Let me hold you so close That all the things that haunt you leave you Let me repair the damage The past is gone and cannot touch you I can’t stand the thought Of you feeling hurt Having seen The world at its worst I want to soothe all sorrows Chase away every bad memory Today and all our tomorrows Matter more than any yesterday I can’t stand the thought Of you feeling hurt Having seen The world at its worst

In Arrivals 04:18
Looking through the window of a train To the place We stood With your suitcase Our footsteps I’ve retraced You’re in Departures - the sky awaits you My mornings will be your nights Here on Greenwich Mean Time The difference Adds to the distance And something will remain amiss Until I see you Until I see you in Arrivals Until I see you in Arrivals I’m heading for the streets We walk most every week And something will remain amiss Until I see you (My mornings will be your nights, your nights) Until I see you in Arrivals Until I see you in Arrivals Until I see you in Arrivals Until I see you in Arrivals

Frosting 04:59
Bare branches blowing Rain hits an evening window The details are the frosting They will repay you tenfold Where there’s giving there’s receiving It pays to pay attention Leaves catching sunlight Golden in the morning Leaves when they’re in flight Each other chasing Where there’s giving there’s receiving The details are the frosting There’s magic waiting In any given moment Be captured Be taken Be in the present You’re here to be stolen Most anything can keep, can hold on You’re here to be stolen Most anything can wait Bare branches blowing Rain hits an evening window The streets you’re tired of There’s more o them than you know Where there’s giving there’s receiving The details are the frosting

I can’t hold onto you like I promised to Said I’d always remember But every day your face grows fainter Every day a little fainter You knew that this would happen didn’t you When you stood and begged me To remember your existence You knew my memories would grow distant An unbearable sadness fills the gaps Left by details I can’t get back I can’t get back I never dreamt I’d be here failing you The imperfection of memory Now you’re more of a ghost than ever - With your signal growing dimmer I thought I’d have no trouble doing What it was you were asking Didn’t see the darkness coming Into which you’re disappearing An unbearable sadness fills the gaps Left by details I can’t get back I can’t get back I’m failing but fighting to keep you I’m fighting but failing to keep you I’m failing but fighting to keep you I’m fighting but failing to keep you

Safe in my cocoon An empty room Haunted by Broken songs and sighs An empty room A slow descent Fearless on this island To which no-one can get I don’t want to learn I just want my feelings confirmed I welcome the false sense of protection In the dark world of the broken A tunnel beckoned I heeded its call Escape is a long way to crawl Thoughts of the future are not entertained Safe and sound and closing down I make myself small Freedom from the need for decisions In the dark world of the broken An empty room A slow descent A slow descent The dark world of the broken The dark world of the broken Of the broken The broken

Cold Colours 03:46
I have to see that she Must have her reasons Reasons I guess I may never know All I know is this Has hurt my feelings I will have to learn to let it go Maybe one day It will all be explained Maybe one day Maybe one day Maybe one day I’ll know why suddenly She began ignoring me And why she chose To bring things to a close I thought maybe this time We’d stay in contact As she would place her trust like we were friends But I guess she had enough Friends already Making me surplus to requirements So I’ll try to Forget she disappeared On me without a word So I’ll try to Forget the mystery hurts But a tender heart Finds forgetting hard Maybe one day It will all be explained Maybe one day Maybe one day Maybe one day I’ll know why suddenly She began ignoring me And why she chose To bring things to a close But I’m not holding out hope

Half-Light 03:35
It looks so pretty as the light fails Late November twilight The day’s about to close its shutters On come all the street lights And I feel a little less defined Though the dying light can find me Lost and feeling fragile In the drifting there is beauty I’ll be a shadow for a short while Sometimes you need to turn down the glare It looks so pretty as the light fails Faltering, departing Stillness now resides in my sails I’ll surrender to the evening The darkness will grow And flow through my veins I’ll let it and let go of the reins Let go of the reins Let go of the reins Let go of the reins

We met in the winter It fits us like we fit each other We feel at home with the sun focused on The Tropic Of Capricorn Pale afternoon skies Dark by five Clean, brittle evenings lit by yuletide lights We met in the winter And winter Winter just feels right The Piccadilly window displays To which we gravitate Forgotten beaches These isles asleep and decayed When the clocks go backwards It’s a step in the right direction With the harvest in And winter on the horizon We met in the winter And winter Winter is our season Winter is our season Winter is our season The Piccadilly window displays To which we gravitate Forgotten beaches These isles asleep and decayed We met in the winter It fits us like we fit each other We feel at home with the sun focused on The Tropic Of Capricorn

An enemy plane In the first light of dawn Watching and waiting For the fog to be torn Heather and birch Grey silk storm Secrecy in northern seas Refugees and Christmas trees Lost colleagues An enemy plane In the first light of dawn Watching and waiting For the fog to be torn Heather and birch Grey silk storm

Tread gently for this is a place Of silence and solitude A place of escape Every colour Has painted the waves At one time or another Every hue Every shade The Emerald City At the world’s edge The magical stillness The gift of less Tread softly For this is a place Of escape so sweet A place of retreat

The sun won’t travel So low tomorrow This day marks The lowest arc The darkest day of the battle is the start of renewal Hope’s here again The promise of spring Apples tied remind Apples tied remind A paradox Carried within The protection and promise Of evergreens ‘The year’s midnight’ Sleeping seeds The darkest day of the battle Is the start of renewal The sun won’t travel So low tomorrow This day marks The lowest arc

Time itself is bringing down our ride We’re on the ground We’ve almost made it Hard to find a way to say goodbye And yet the final kiss betrayed it In the shadow of the world outside Don’t let it darken down your eyes You never could have second prize Out into the world on shaking ground And leaving all the lights behind us From my arms where no warmth could be found Just the love that had confined us In the shadow of the things you know Don’t ever think of letting go No, Not for second prize Time is up and bringing down our ride We’re on the ground the music’s ending

She is here And there is no need to devote Any time to anything but hope I know where I belong And there will be no more sad songs No more sad songs Everything Burns that much brighter shared The memories we’re making here And there’ll be more to come But there will be no more sad songs No more sad songs She is here And now it’s time to cast aside The writing of despairing lines I know just what we’ve got And I know there’ll be no more sad songs No more sad songs The winter moon Looks down upon a midnight walk The moon that listens when you talk And nothing’s wrong And there will be no more sad songs No more sad songs

When something is sad, it is sad. “Fast Trains and Telegraph Wires” will be the last full-length album from TREMBLING BLUE STARS. After nearly 15 years of activity, Bobby Wratten’s band, the music that came after the mythical FIELD MICE and the unforgettable NORTHERN PICTURE LIBRARY, is offering his last songs. In a fantastic double-CD edition, accompanied by the EP “Cicely Tonight Volume One” the group from Mitcham give us a collection of undisputable, exciting and disturbing songs, that includes the work of Jonathan Akerman, Beth Arzy and Keris Howard again, that indie-pop super group, as well as Cath Carroll’s (singer of MIAOW, one of the groups included on NME’s mythical tape, C86, and musical journalist) special collaboration on vocals on that gem of a song full of sweetness that is “The Imperfection of Memory”. It is a masterpiece, with intense singles like “Cold Colours” and “All Our Tomorrows”, as well as the melancholy and delicate “Frosting”, “Half-Light” and “The Dark World of The Broken”. The disc closes with “The Hidden Quarter”, a beautiful composition dedicated to the film and video director, Derek Jarman (responsible for videos from THE SEX PISTOLS, THE SMITHS, PET SHOP BOYS). On the other hand, “Cicely Tonight Volume One” offers the more experimental side of Wratten, the side that gets closer by the second to big names like Brian Eno, in addition to the vocal collaboration of Anne Mari Barker-Davies on “The Lowest Arc”, a version of THE DREAM ACADEMY’s “Not For Second Prize”.

Two complementary parts that give a panoramic view of the incomparable and unique figure that is Robert Wratten, and especially, his work at the head of TREMBLING BLUE STARS, capable of light and darkness, of reflecting pain and sadness in brilliant, emotion-filled melodies. It is an epilogue that will be completed with the second part of “Cicely Tonight”, a new CD-single that will be out soon and that will bring a close to one of the most personal and unforgettable discographies that has ever been released. The music is forged somewhere between love and melancholy, the notes reflect the sincerest emotions, and it has a sensitivity and honesty that will be difficult to hear or see again.
